Aging Optimist Celebrates National Spoil Your Dog Day at HarborChase Riverwalk, Rock Hill, SC

Did you know that August 10th is National Spoil Your Dog Day? Well... Christy, our geriatric care manager, did.

She celebrated by leading a dog treat making class with her client, Ute, and a few other dog loving residents at Ute’s assisted Living facility. Christy partnered with the community’s activity coordinator, Ivette, to bring this wonderful service project to life that ended with a generous donation to the local Animal Shelter.

With Christy’s help, the residents used peanut butter, applesauce, chicken broth, and flour to make the dough. Then, they rolled it out and used bone shaped cookie cutters to make sure the treats looked the part. Ivette helped the group get access to the community’s dining room oven, where they baked the treats for about 15 minutes. After cooling, the residents helped pack the treats in decorative baggies so they could be donated to the local dog shelter. Later that week, Ivette took the residents on a field trip to drop off the treats at the Humane Society of York County. A great time was had by all…especially those lucky pups at the shelter!
